Yay! One outfit down...almost!

I just won an auction on eBay for this ^ two piece ultra faux suede tan suit! It is plain and a size 8, but I am going to get it altered and find someone to bedazzle or embroider it for me! Yay! It was only $20.00 (includes S&H)! It will be worth getting it embroidered for that price...and finding new buttons!

Only 7/8 Months Not a Year

I e-mailed the new state director to find out when the MRM website would be back and running and if there would be any rule changes. She said there would be a few and that they are looking at September dates for MRM 2012...that means I have only 7-8 months to prepare not 12! Ahh! I can do it. The biggest thing I will have to conquer is FUNDING for my outfits....or find someone who can make me a dress for relatively cheap. Dresses need to be western and look like this:

Fabric Dress
Leather Dress

3-Piece Leather Dress

Dresses can be anything from lambskin leather to cotton fabric. I'm considering renting a dress from Barbara Western Wear. We'll see. There are many cheap options I have found and I already have a horsemanship shirt, just need to finish the outfit with black pants, belt, and boots. I need another job!

On an ending note, I decided to use Dakota. She is pretty and already knows how to rein!

To Do List

In light of the new year, my first plan was to get back in shape by attending two different exercise classes 4 times a week. But that plan is on a short hiatus since I contracted bronchitis after attending my first cardio class last Wednesday. I need to write my goals, or to do list, down so I can stay focused. Eventually, I will rearrange the order, but for now this will do:

-Stick to my exercise plan.
-Funding- How am I going to save money for outfits?
-Keep my eye on the prize.
-Figure out which horse I'm going to use (Dakota, hopefully), start working and desensitizing her. (Not starting til the weather is warmer)
-Outfits- there is a lot of cheap clothes out there, even rentals...which I'm considering.
-Keep up with news topics
-Have people ask me random questions that require quick-thinking
-Make flashcards about PRCA rules, equine facts (I'm going to use the study guides kids use for the 4-H Horse Knowledge bowl...I have sources now!), MRA (Miss Rodeo America) and MRM (Miss Rodeo Missouri) history and facts...I'll do this during the summer when I have more time.
-Speech ideas...I need a speech about Missouri.
-Idea for an Innovative outfit...my favorite movie character...I have too many favorites.
-Eventually, I need to start making a business plan of who I would ask for sponsorships, but I'll worry about that way later.
-Need to find someone to take a few headshots and 8x10

I'm sure I'll think of more things as they arise, but for now this makes my mind a little more clear! I'm not sure how often I'll post. Maybe once a week or every other week or whenever I feel necessary. For those of you following, I'll eventually post more information about the pageant and the resources I find along the way, just in case anyone out there is looking for more help on where they can find rodeo queen items.

Introduction

Hi,
Welcome to my new blog. It has been awhile since I've had one of these so bare with me! I created this blog to write about my struggles, successes, goals, hopes, etc. as I work towards becoming Miss Rodeo Missouri. When I first heard about rodeo queens, way back when, I thought about the stereotypical pageant queen. But rodeo queens are more than just looks. In the summer of 2009, I had the opportunity to work with SK Horses, Ltd. at National Park Gateway Stables/Cowpoke Corner Corral. My boss, Jessi, former Miss Rodeo Iowa 1997, bought all her employees tickets to the Rooftop Rodeo. It was here that I was able to see just what rodeo queens do and it is definitely more than just sitting atop a horse looking pretty. These girls, or women, act as ambassadors for the sport of rodeo. They must have good horsemanship skills, personality, speech, appearance, etc. These aren't typical pageant queens. Most of these women are down-to-earth, real cowgirls. Some have never had pageantry experience.

In 2010, I went back out to Estes Park, CO (forgot to mention the location), and was able to see more rodeo queens since I attended more rodeos. I became intrigued and decided to find out if Missouri had a Miss Rodeo pageant. They do! I want to be a rodeo queen because I want to bring the western way of life back to Missouri. I want to be a role model for little girls in my state that have dreams of being a barrel racer or a rodeo queen. I want to represent the rodeo sport, the cowboys and cowgirls who make it their hard earned living. I want to give back and make a difference.

I think I possess the qualities that make a good rodeo queen. Some things I will need to work on, others I won't have to. Please feel free to follow me in my journey towards becoming Miss Rodeo Missouri 2012. (And my parents thought I was joking when I told them I wanted to run for rodeo queen!)
